I’m only slightly exaggerating when I say I used to own a million lip products. A friend once made the mistake of looking inside my work bag for a chapstick, and said with shock, “It’s a Sephora in there!” We counted, and I was carrying almost a dozen balms, lipsticks, pencils, and glosses.
Minimalism is all about perspective. I might someday get down to only one or two lipsticks, but this is where I am today: standing proud with my decidedly non-beauty-department-sized stash… of four.
Two lights, two darks. Two warm-toned, two cool-toned (because I honestly think all that “you can only wear X tone!” is … well, BS). Four colors that I love.

Do you carry a ton of lip products, too? Here are a few steps that helped me narrow down:
An easy first one: throw out any products you haven’t worn in the last three months. No seasonal or “But I’m going to wear it!” excuses. We’re getting to your favorites, here!
If you bought it more than two weeks ago and haven’t worn it yet, throw it out or return it.
If it requires any extra products for you to use it (i.e. lipsticks that only look good when blended together, or with another lip gloss on top), it’s gone.
Of the lippies that you have left, grab your three most-worn, most-loved favorites. Are there any that you had a tough time deciding between? Keep those – you’re looking at what’s left!
It shouldn’t be about depriving yourself, but rather finding what you love and moving the rest out of the way. Have fun!
